UPDATES ON COVID-19

Frequently Asked Questions

(Updated 29 August 2022)

The health and well-being of the LASALLE community is our top priority. In light of the current COVID-19 situation in Singapore, LASALLE has implemented and enforced a range of policies and measures to protect students, staff and members of the public.

These FAQs seek to address common questions we have received from students, parents and members of the public.

General

1. What must I take note of before going to campus?

LASALLE has adopted stringent measures adherent to health and safety guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other government agencies. Please familiarise yourself with the latest safe management measures before coming to campus.

The College adopts a zero-tolerance approach to any breach of government guidelines and will continue to safeguard the health, safety and well-being of our students, staff and visitors. All staff and students who are unwell are advised to see a doctor and stay at home.

2. What is the definition of fully vaccinated?

From 14 February 2022, persons aged 18 years and above who have completed the primary vaccination series and are eligible for booster vaccination will be considered as fully vaccinated for 270 days after the last dose in their primary vaccination series. The same will also apply to persons aged 12–17 years old from 14 March 2022.

They should receive their booster vaccination no later than 270 days thereafter, to ensure an optimal level of protection. Upon receiving their booster, they will continue to be considered as fully vaccinated beyond the 270 days.

International students

7. I am an incoming international student. What are the requirements for me to enter Singapore?

Student’s Pass (STP) holders and Dependent Pass (DP) holders who enter Singapore from 1 November 2021 via the Student’s Pass Holder Lane (STPHL) and Work Pass Holder General Lane (WPHL) must meet the COVID-19 vaccination requirements for entry. This includes post-entry requirements for pass holders who are aged 12 and above at the point of arrival:

  1. Those who entered Singapore before they were fully vaccinated*^ must complete the full vaccination regimen within two months after they arrive in Singapore. Please visit https://www.vaccine.gov.sg for information on getting vaccinated in Singapore.
  2. Those who were fully vaccinated overseas^ must update their vaccination records in the National Immunisation Registry (NIR) within 14 days of completing their self-isolation or Stay-Home Notice in Singapore. To do so, they will need to show documentary proof of their overseas vaccination, and a positive serology test result taken at a Public Health Preparedness Clinic (https://www.phpc.gov.sg) at their own expense. If the serology test result is negative, they must complete the full vaccination regimen within two months of the negative test result.
  3. Those who are medically ineligible for vaccination must, at their own expense, seek medical consultation in Singapore and be certified to be medically ineligible for all COVID-19 vaccines under Singapore’s National Vaccination Programme, within 14 days of completing their self-isolation or Stay-Home Notice in Singapore. Otherwise, they must complete the full vaccination regimen within two months of their arrival.

*Those aged below 18 may enter without proof of vaccination. Nonetheless, all travellers are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated prior to entering Singapore, where possible.

^An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after he/she has received the full regimen of World Health Organization Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) vaccines.

8. What are the support systems in place for international students at LASALLE?

We recognise that especially for international students who are away from their families, the COVID-19 situation is a difficult one. We would like to reiterate that currently, the situation in Singapore is being contained and there is no need to worry, as long as we remain vigilant and socially responsible.

We will support international students who are required to serve QO/SHN. Those who have issues with accommodation and require assistance with basic necessities can approach Student Services for help.

The well-being of all students is important to us. Students may reach out to our counsellors for emotional support at any time.

9. Can LASALLE assist with arrangements should an international student want to return to their home country?

Under tightened border control measures during this period, we advise that if possible, international students should remain in Singapore. LASALLE is unable to assist in any travel arrangements for students wishing to leave Singapore.

10. Would LASALLE's insurance plan reimburse students’ medical expenses if they are infected with COVID-19 from an unknown source or someone in LASALLE?

From 8 December 2021, COVID-19 patients who are unvaccinated by choice will be charged for bills at hospitals and community treatment facilities.

These patients may still tap on regular healthcare financing arrangements to pay for their bills, where applicable:

  • Singapore Citizens (SC) and Permanent Residents (PR) may access regular government subsidies and MediShield Life/Integrated Shield Plan.
  • Long Term Pass Holders may tap on their usual financing arrangements, such as private insurance.

The government will continue to foot COVID-19 medical bills for the following persons:

  • Vaccinated* SCs, PRs and Long-Term Pass Holders (LTPH), except for those who were infected after overseas travel.
  • Those who are ineligible for vaccination i.e. children under 5 years of age or medically ineligible persons.

* From 1 January 2022, only SC/PR/LTPH COVID-19 patients who are fully vaccinated and have not recently travelled will have their COVID-19 medical bills fully paid for by the government.

In addition, LASALLE’s medical insurance plan covers medical expenses related to COVID-19 infection. The student medical insurance policy covers existing students for inpatient treatment relating to COVID-19 both in Singapore and overseas. For new international students, the effective date of medical insurance coverage is based on the date of arrival in Singapore. Note that quarantine charges incurred at hotel/Stay-Home Notice facilities and community surveillance testing are not reimbursable.

If students travel overseas against advisories from the authorities and contract COVID-19, they will not be covered by insurance nor would the government pay for any hospitalisation charges.
