Lecturers/Senior Lecturers/Programme Leader (Puttnam School of Film & Animation)

LASALLE’s renowned Puttnam School of Film and Animation seeks to appoint four experienced, energetic, multi-skilled filmmaker-educators as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer at this pivotal moment in the College’s transition to university status. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to developing a new strategic vision for the School, which offers a range of production programmes unique within Singapore and its immediate region: Diploma Programmes in Broadcast Media and Animation, and BA(Hons) Programmes in Film and Animation Art.

Lecturers are sought in the following areas of specialisation:

• Directing Non-Fiction
• Directing and Producing
• Physical and Virtual Production Design
• Sound

The ideal candidates for the respective areas of specialisation would be someone with the following requirements:

Directing Non-Fiction: Extensive knowledge of media production-related hardware and software; experience in live multi-camera production and live-streaming; ability to design and equip a multi-camera TV/media production studio and, preferably, knowledge of virtual production, AR and VR.

Directing & Producing: Experience in fiction film directing and in line and creative producing; and ability to effectively teach film scheduling and budgeting, film financing and distribution, and media IP and copyright.

Physical & Virtual Production Design: Experience in and the ability to effectively teach Vectorworks for set design; ability to effectively teach physical set design and installation, as well as virtual production using Epic Games Unreal Engine; and thorough knowledge of health and safety protocols governing set installation, the use of power tools and workshop etiquette.

Sound: Ability to teach location sound using a variety of equipment, foley and ADR recording, synching of timecode to the camera, dialogue editing, sound design and sound mixing (including 2.1 and 5.1 Surround Sound); knowledge of technical delivery specifications for broadcast, cinema, and web; knowledge of Avid Pro Tools, iZotope RX and RX Post-Production Bundle, Waves Gold Bundle, and other industry-standard plug-ins, and, preferably, familiarity with Fairlight in DaVinci Resolve.

As Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will report to the Programme Leader of your assigned programme. You may also be deployed to teach across programmes in the School as appropriate. Your key responsibilities will include academic preparation, teaching and delivering specialised knowledge/skills and cognitive-based content to ensure the students’ learning objectives are met. You will work collaboratively with the teams within/across programmes and Faculty to enhance strategic and Faculty/School plans and ensure that the programme achieves its strategic ambitions and objectives. 

Other responsibilities include coordination of academic learning activities, academic administration and organisation, feedback on assignments, conducting assessments and marking, student mentoring and recruitment. You will also contribute to the academic development of the programme and work as part of a team, and be involved in specific programme activities/projects and other cross-faculty initiatives. In particular, you will support the Programme Leader to deliver student learning outcomes. You will also implement research/professional practices to extend knowledge of an appropriate subject area to benefit the programme and the students. We particularly encourage applications from individuals with a developing or established professional and/or research profile.

Candidates with the required years of experience and appropriate mentoring skills will also be considered for a concurrent appointment as Programme Leader for the Diploma in Broadcast Media.

If you are the candidate hired to concurrently serve as Programme Leader for Broadcast Media, in addition to having the academic duties described above, you will be responsible to provide academic and managerial leadership for the Diploma programme, serving as a mentor to both staff and students. Your key responsibilities include overseeing the curriculum and its continuous enhancement and the planning and coordinating classes, students’ projects and exhibitions. You will work with your team of lecturers to inspire students and produce highly skilled and employable graduates. You will be encouraged to continuously explore innovative teaching methods through various modes, including blended learning. You will also manage the programme efficiently – with the Head of School – within the allotted resources and budget, including selecting and managing part-time staff and a range of visiting artists. You will support the Head to identify regional academic and design projects and opportunities for students to engage with their peers. You will be required to build strong industry partnerships.
