Lecturer (Theatre Production and Management)

The School of Dance & Theatre in the Faculty of Performing Arts is a leader in contemporary performance practices in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Dedicated to developing thoughtful, reflective and adventurous talents for the performing arts sector, the School offers a range of programmes in Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre, Performance and Theatre Production and Management. It is well-known for its experimental and interdisciplinary approaches, hallmarked by top-class performance venues for student performances and presentations.  

The School of Dance & Theatre is seeking to appoint a dynamic and energetic full-time lecturer for the Diploma in Theatre Production and Management programme.

Reporting to the Head of School and Programme Leader, you will teach into the exciting, practical and diverse curriculum and a broad range of subject areas which are involved in the mounting of theatre and other kinds of live events. You will have opportunities to provide technical and artistic guidance and supervise students to collaborate on projects and productions with other programmes in the School and Faculty. 

As a lecturer at LASALLE, your key responsibilities include academic preparation, teaching and delivery of specialised knowledge/skills and cognitive-based content to ensure the students’ learning objectives are met. You will work collaboratively with the teams within/across programmes and Faculty in enhancing the strategic and organisational plans and ensuring that the programme achieves its strategic ambitions and objectives. 

Other responsibilities include coordination of School events with faculty staff, curriculum and repertoire review, timetabling, academic learning activities, academic administration and organisation, feedback on assignments, conducting assessments and marking, student mentoring and recruitment. You will also contribute to the academic development of the programme and work as a team and be involved in specific programme activities/projects/performances and other cross-faculty initiatives.  You will also implement research/professional practices to share and extend knowledge to benefit the programme and the students. 

The ideal candidate should have applied and academic knowledge or experience in a number of theatre production disciplines. You must be able to teach at an introductory level in at least two of the following – lighting design and operation, sound design and operation and use of media within theatre and events. You will also need to be able to work collaboratively with the academic team as well as the technical team.

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification preferably at PhD level or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of full-time substantial professional experience in the industry and 5 years of working knowledge of theatre education at a tertiary level or tertiary-level teaching experience.
  • Solid understanding of contemporary theatre practice. 
  • A passion for teaching with ability to nurture and encourage excellence in student learning and ability to teach within a multicultural context.
  • Possess excellent communication, organisational and team working skills and administration skills.
  • A positive attitude to research, and preferably a personal research profile.
