Scholarships & financial support

Scholarships & financial support FAQ

We are committed to providing a quality education for all our students and believe that no deserving student should be denied admission because of financial difficulty. A range of financial assistance schemes, grants and loans are made available to help meet a portion of the educational expenses of students.

Please note that miscellaneous fees are not covered by scholarships, bursaries or the Mendaki Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy (TTFS).

What financial aid schemes does LASALLE have for students?

The College offers merit-based scholarships to new and current students of all nationalities pursuing full-time diploma and degree studies.

Bursaries are also open to Singaporean students pursuing full-time diploma and degree studies. These are awarded based on per capita income (PCI).

Yayasan Mendaki offers the Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy (TTFS) to Singaporean Malay students pursuing their first diploma or degree. For more information, please visit www.mendaki.org.sg.

What do these schemes cover?

College-administered scholarships and bursaries are strictly to cover tuition fees. If awarded, the funds will be credited directly to your college fee account with the balance to be paid by you.

Government bursaries such as the MOE and CDC Bursaries, may be used to cover tuition fees and/or living expenses /art materials. The College reserves the right to deduct unsettled tuition fees from your MOE or CDC Bursaries.

Mendaki TTFS can only be used to cover tuition fees.

Do note that the above schemes do not cover miscellaneous fees, insurance fees, art materials or living expenses.

When are the college-administered scholarships bursaries open?

For new students, college-administered schemes open from February - May each year.

For current LASALLE students, these will open every June. Please submit your application after you have received your final results in June.

What is the difference between a scholarship and a bursary?

A scholarship is awarded based on merit, leadership qualities, creative potential, academic results and track record.

A bursary is awarded to students who demonstrate financial challenges and meet the eligibility criteria of the scheme.

Can I apply for both a scholarship and a bursary at the same time?

Yes, you may submit applications for both but can only be awarded either one. Do note that submission of an application does not guarantee an award.

Is there a service obligation for these schemes?

LASALLE-administered scholarships and bursaries are bond-free.

However, recipients of different awards may be required to volunteer at the College or donor-organised events, participate at community events and/ or fulfil an internship.

What happens if I am unable to fulfil the service commitment?

The recipient will be required to refund the full amount awarded.

How can I calculate my family's per capita income (PCI)?

PCI = Total gross income of family members at the same address divided by the total number of family members.

Family members include :

• Immediate family members (ie. parents, siblings, spouses and children)
• Nonimmediate family members (eg. grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) who are living at the same address as the applicant

I have applied for a LASALLE-administered scholarship but I was not awarded. I still need financial aid for my studies. What should I do?

You may consider applying for the government bursaries i.e. HECB/HEB if your family’s per capita income (PCI) is S$2,250 or below, or your family’s gross household income (GHI) is $9,000 or below.

How many scholarships and bursaries are awarded each year?

I have applied for a place at LASALLE for the upcoming intake, but I have not gone for my interview /audition yet. Can I apply for a scholarship or bursary first?

To be considered for a scholarship/bursary, applicants must have received an offer from Admissions into a full-time diploma or degree course at LASALLE. Please submit your scholarship application by the application deadline after you have received your offer package from Admissions.

I am a scholarship / bursary holder. What happens if I fail a module or am required to repeat?

LASALLE reserves the right to revoke the award if the recipient fails and is required to repeat.

Similarly, scholarship recipients who are unable to maintain the stipulated grade average required by some of the schemes may have their award revoked.

In both instances, the student may continue his/ her studies in LASALLE at their own expense.

What is the penalty if I decide to withdraw from studies mid-way after being awarded a scholarship / bursary?

The scholarship / bursary will be revoked and you will be liable to return the full award amount.

How do I apply for a LASALLE-administered scholarship / bursary?

To give your application the best chance of success, please complete the online application form as fully and accurately as possible.  Ensure that all required supporting documents are uploaded with your application by the application closing date.

Incomplete and/or late applications will not be considered.

Do note that submission of an application does not guarantee an award.

My Mendaki TTFS application has been approved. Can I apply for a government bursary (HECB/HEB) as well?

Students receiving the Mendaki TTFS can also apply for the HECB or HEB if they meet the eligibility criteria.

I am on the Mendaki TTFS. However, I want to intermit my studies and resume at a later date. Can the TTFS be brought forward when I resume my studies?

Your TTFS will be revoked once you have deferred or intermitted your studies and you will need to reapply for the Mendaki TTFS upon resumption of studies.

To reapply, please visit tfas.mendaki.org.sg.

Due to a sudden change in family income, I wish to appeal for more subsidy from Mendaki. What should I do?

Please approach Mendaki on the appeal and refer to www.mendaki.org.sg for their contact details.

Is there an application deadline for the Mendaki TTFS? I have already commenced my studies but would like to apply for it now.

There are two application periods each year for LASALLE students to apply for the Mendaki TTFS.  Please refer to www.mendaki.org.sg for more information.

1) June – July
2) November – January

I was previously on the Mendaki TTFS in my Diploma studies. I have recently been offered a place in a BA programme starting in August. What should I do?

Your previous TTFS for Diploma studies would have expired once you have graduated from your Diploma course.   Hence you are required to re-apply for the Mendaki TTFS for your BA studies.  Please refer to www.mendaki.org.sg for more information.

I am interested in the MOE / CDC Bursary. How can I apply for this?

The MOE / CDC bursaries open at various times of the academic year. The MOE / CDC bursaries are valid for one year.

Reapplication is only allowed after a lapse of 12 calendar months from your earlier application. For example, if you applied and received an MOE bursary in February 2016, you can reapply only in January 2017 and not any earlier.

Can I hold more than one scholarship, bursary or financial aid?

Students are required to declare any external scholarships, bursaries or grants they have applied for, or have been awarded when they submit a scholarship or bursary application.   This will be taken into consideration by the awarding committee(s).

A recipient of the LASALLE-administered scholarship/bursary or Mendaki Tertiary Tuition Subsidy (TTFS) which cover the tuition fees only may also receive a government bursary.

I have been offered the Creative Spark Scholarship for AY2017/2018. Can I apply for another scholarship, bursary or financial aid?

Students awarded the Creative Spark Scholarship cannot apply for another college-administered bursary or scholarship.

However, they may apply for either the CDC or MOE Bursary to help with their living expenses and/or art materials.

I have been offered the Creative Spark Scholarship for AY2017/2018. I am also awarded the Mendaki Tertiary Tuiton Fee Subsidy (TTFS). What should I do?

Students are allowed to hold both the Creative Spark Scholarship with the Mendaki TTFS. For example :

If you have been granted 100% TTFS subsidy + the Creative Spark Scholarship :
• The Creative Spark Scholarship will cover your Level 1 fees in AY2017/2018
• The 100% TTFS subsidy will start from Level 2 onwards.

If you have been granted 50% - 75% TTFS subsidy + the Creative Spark Scholarship :
• TTFS will cover 50% - 75% of your Level 1 fees in AY2017/2018
• The Creative Spark Scholarship will cover the balance 25% - 50% of your Level 1 fees after
your TTFS subsidy
• The TTFS will continue to your Level 2 & 3 or until your MOE tuition grant runs out.
